In this short read, we share our 5 tips on things you might want to consider when moving to a new area.

1. Can you afford It?

Firstly, you need to establish whether you can afford to live in your chosen new area and which type of property is best for your budget. The best way to do this is contact a number of local estate agents to discuss your specific requirements and gain an understanding of what properties might be available.

2. Are the local amenities and schools (If required) suitable?

Some people will want lots of amenities close to their home – whether that's schools, colleges, supermarkets, leisure activities or local parks. However, others might like a rural property, so these requirements may not be quite so important. The best way to find out about the local amenities is to spend time researching online and exploring the area.

3. What are crime rates for the area?

You may feel worried or concerned about the crime rates in an area because you have children, elderly relatives or for any other reason. It’s a good idea to explore the local crime statistics and you can do this online. Simply type the location into the police.uk website to analyze the results. Just consider that the information can look more worrying than it is, so it’s a good idea to compare the information with where you currently live.

4. Are the transport links what you need?

Travelling around your local area is something you are likely to do often – possibly even daily. Strong transport links can make a huge difference in determining whether an area is the right place to live. If you are re locating away from family and friends, it’s worth considering how long it will take to travel back to see them.

5. What Job Opportunities are available locally?

If you plan on working close to home when you move, you should check out available jobs and salaries. Does your current employer offer any opportunities to re locate or work remotely. If you planning to retire to a new area, employment opportunities will not be important to you.
